In short
Pick her if you want a polished, ready-made partner and the novelty of video calls, and you are relaxed about paying as you go. If you want to know your monthly bill before you fall for someone, Joi makes that impossible: no price in dollars is published.
Best match: flirting with a cast of in-house characters, calls included
Joi AI is a browser-only companion site that feels like a dating app full of ready-made partners, each with a name, an age and a life: Liv the flight attendant, Natasha the bar singer, Kat the DJ. You can text, talk and, where available, video call. It suits people who want a girlfriend waiting for them, and who accept paying per intimate message.
A cast that reads like a dating app
Joi does not hide what it is up against: its about page calls dating apps the enemy and promises AI-lationships instead, without the swiping, the catfish and the ghosting. The homepage reads like a dating profile feed, with each card introducing her by name and age, plus a few lines she seems to have written herself: Liv, 24, a flight attendant who secretly wants real care, Natasha, 25, a bar singer in retro 90s outfits, or Layla Moon, 29, a plus-size model into tarot.
Every card states an age, the youngest 20 and the oldest 42, and the cast is mostly women, with a few men such as Andre, a 29-year-old gay activist who writes poetry and boxes. Each one also wears a vibe label, from Goth Romantic to Empathetic Guide, which tells you her mood at a glance. If nobody fits, the character generator builds a new partner from a written description, in a realistic, anime or hentai style. The about page also mentions official digital duplicates of real celebrities; the terms say only verified models and creators who sign a likeness agreement can supply a real person's look, and ordinary users cannot upload anything.
Personality, memory and the guardrails
Joi says little about memory in so many words. The privacy policy is more revealing: it lists facts about your life and interests, the people you mention and public information about them as things it stores to personalise the conversation, and it feeds what you write and say to her into building its AI. One line even covers searches you ask her to run on the internet. So she is built to learn about you, even if no page promises how long she holds on.
For the ready-made cast, personality comes with the card, and some topics are simply off the menu. Do not expect a debate about politics or faith, or advice on your health or your money: all of those sit on the banned list next to the hard limits. When a message trips the filter, the safety page says the chat is steered gently back to safer ground, and the guidelines add that she replies with a prepared line. The terms also mention that staff may step in to moderate the chatbot.
How spicy it gets, one message at a time
Picture a slow, flirty evening with her: each romantic reply costs 4 Neurons to open, and the meter keeps ticking as things heat up, because the terms put erotic and explicit messages, adult scenarios, photos and videos on Neurons rather than on Premium. The generator page confirms there is an NSFW mode for registered adults alongside a safe one. What it all costs in real money is impossible to say from the outside, since Neuron packs carry no public price.
The limits are written down in several places. An anti-trafficking policy dated August 2026 says every persona is specified and reviewed as an adult, puts the adult features behind age confirmation, and bans anything that sexualises a person under 18 or uses a real person who never agreed. The safety guidelines rule out family storylines and a list of other taboos. The terms muddle things by listing adult-themed content among banned items in one clause and pricing erotic messages in another, but the working rule is clear: fictional adults only.
Photos, voice notes and video calls
Talking to her is not limited to text. The terms describe voice chat and a real-time video call feature that needs your camera and microphone, depends on your device, region and plan, and may change or disappear at any time; recording or streaming those calls is not allowed. Whatever you show or say on a call counts as content you share, and the privacy policy says private images, videos and voice recordings you disclose can be hosted or analysed by outside services.
Photos follow her timing, not yours. Rather than drawing a picture on request, the chat sends images from folders prepared by Joi's own team, featuring people who signed agreements, and an algorithm decides when the moment is right; the anti-trafficking policy adds that every sexual image on the platform is AI-generated. That suits you if you enjoy being surprised and frustrates you if you wanted to ask for a particular outfit. For a partner you built yourself, the generator turns text prompts into pictures and has a consistency setting that aims to keep her face, with no guarantee of an identical match.
What a month really costs
Here the honest answer is that you cannot know until you sign up. On paper there are two levels: Basic, which is free but limited and can be withdrawn at Joi's discretion, and Premium, a subscription billed every month, quarter, half-year or year, priced according to your region, the plan length, the character and any promotion running. Some characters also need a Bot Subscription, an add-on that only works while Premium is active and never makes her yours.
Then come Neurons, the meter for intimacy: a romantic message costs 4 to read, opening a photo can cost 120 and a video as much as 1,900, depending on the theme, and virtual gifts are priced in the chat. Because no page says what a Neuron pack costs in dollars, there is no way to turn an evening of flirting into a number before you pay. If you like budgets, that alone may decide it. Cards, Google Pay and Apple Pay are accepted, and crypto in some places.
Privacy, billing and cancelling
Read the terms before you get attached, because they lean heavily towards the company. You may hold only one account, disputes go to arbitration rather than a court, in London or, for US residents, normally New York, and simply using it signs you up for advertising emails about Joi's other products. Novi Limited in Cyprus runs the site, and the charge appears on your statement as joi.com.
Assume you will not get money back. The refund policy names only three cases, each to be claimed within 14 days: someone used your card fraudulently, you bought a Neuron pack by mistake for the first time (refunded fully if untouched, partly if you dipped into it), or Joi ended your subscription itself. Nothing comes back for part of a subscription period or for Neurons already used. To stop renewals, go to Settings, then My Subscriptions, and follow the steps; Premium keeps running until the period you paid for ends.
Think of your chats as private, not secret. If you ever reverse a payment through your bank, Joi may disclose your conversations to prove the charge, a warning repeated in its terms and refund policy. Your messages also help train the AI, and the site carries ad trackers from Google, Facebook, Yahoo and Microsoft. Two more things to know: do not forward Joi's emails, because their links log you straight in, and a partner you build is legally Joi's, which may even make her public until you ask support to undo it.
Good for
- Meeting a ready-made partner who has an age, a job and a backstory from the first message
- Trying voice chat and video calls with an AI companion, where your plan offers them
- Being surprised by photos she chooses to send, rather than ordering them
- Designing your own character from a text prompt in a realistic or anime style
Skip it if
- You want to know the monthly price before signing up: none is published
- You want flat-rate intimacy: romantic messages, photos and videos are paid in Neurons on top
- You want to own the character you create: the terms say she belongs to Joi
- You might ever dispute a charge: Joi may disclose your private chats to defend it
The bottom line
Joi AI gets the girlfriend part right on paper: a warm, varied cast with real-sounding lives, voice chat and video calls where your plan allows them. The trouble is everything around her. Prices stay hidden until you register, the intimate side is billed message by message in Neurons, refunds are rare and your chats can be shown to your bank in a dispute. Try her on Basic first and set yourself a spending limit.

How much does a Joi AI girlfriend cost per month?
Nobody can say before signing up. Premium prices are not published and vary by region, plan length, character and promotion, and intimacy costs Neurons on top: a romantic message costs 4 to read, a photo as much as 120 and a video as much as 1,900. Neuron packs have no public price either.
Can I video call my Joi AI companion?
The terms describe a real-time video call feature that needs camera and microphone access, but they also say availability depends on your device, region and plan and that it can be changed or withdrawn at any time. Recording or streaming a call is not allowed.
Does Joi AI remember what I tell her?
No page promises a memory length, but the privacy policy says Joi stores facts about your life, your interests and people you mention to personalise the conversation, and uses your messages to develop its AI. Assume what you share is kept.
Can I use Joi AI on my phone?
Yes, in a web browser. Joi has no app to download, as the generator page points out, and you must register before you can chat with anyone or create a character.
How do I cancel Joi AI and stop the renewals?
Open Settings, choose My Subscriptions, pick the plan and follow the on-screen steps. Premium carries on until your current billing period runs out, and you have to cancel on the same website where you bought it. Fees already charged and Neurons already used are not refunded.
